Forward Looking Sonar
Forward Looking Sonar (FLS) plays a critical role in maintaining situational awareness during marine surveys. It provides real-time acoustic imaging ahead of the vessel or ROV, allowing us to identify hazards, obstacles, or changing bottom conditions before we reach them. In a survey function, this added visibility supports safer navigation in shallow, confined, or complex environments where traditional downward looking systems may not provide enough warning. Utilizing FLS can also provide our surveys with supporting forward looking photomosaic allowing longer survey targets to be stitched together.
FLS helps refine line planning and approach strategies around infrastructure or sensitive areas, giving us the detail we need to execute high-level survey. Overall, it enhances our safety, efficiency, and confidence while collecting high-quality data.
